Batu Pahat has no lack of good food, and offers a variety of specialties from different ethnicity. Here are a few, out of many options, that are highly recommended by local taste buddies:
Asam Pedas Fish
In recent years, Batu Pahat has also made a name for itself in Asam Pedas Fish recipe, with its balance ratio of spiciness and sourness. Most of the asam fish in Batu Pahat are made from ikan merah for its sweetness and more fibrous meat compared to other fish.
Asam Pedas Mak Limah is one of the highest rated and judging from the freshness and its aromatic asam pedas, it totally deserves the fame.

Lontong
Lontong is a Johor-specialty food and it’s not exaggerating to say you won’t find a good one in other parts of Malaysia. Do not underestimate the seemingly watery sauce, as it is packed with flavour with hints of peanuts, coconut milk and vegetable sweetness. Poured over the nasi impit and garnished with any toppings they can offer, this is another wholesome meal that Batu Pahat offers.
Lontong Roundabout is one of the famous lontong stalls and just as the name suggested, it is located next to Batu Pahat roundabout, interchange between Jalan Kluang and Jalan Rahmat. However, the good lontong comes with a downside which is the attitude from the owner.
If you are not up for the attitude challenge, there are many other Lontong stalls to choose from. One of them is Gerai Mak Ani in Taman Maju.

Wanton Mee (non-Halal)
This is no stranger to anyone who comes to Batu Pahat seeking for food as Ah See Wanton Mee has operated for decades. The wanton is not the main attraction. Rather, it is their handmade light colored al-dente noodles drenched with special sesame sauce that made the name.

Nasi Lemak Cik Chom
Up for some irresistable 8 footers? Try nasi lemak sotong King Kong from Cik Chom. It is a little out of town in Sri Gading area but the gigantic squid that almost hide all the santan flavoured rice from view will make up for the travelling. It is fresh, crispy and delectable to every bite. The chef even took the pain to make two batches of rice – the green rice with double coconut milk and pandan, and the white rice with normal dose of coconut milk.
