For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an ardent Hello Kitty fan. This little mouthless cat has charmed my heart from when I was a little girl, so it’s not surprising that MY own daughter is as much of a fan as I am. Two years ago, when I first heard that Sanrio Hello Kitty Land will be built in our very own Johor Bahru, I was overjoyed.
Fast forward to early 2013, and I finally had the opportunity to visit this lovely indoor theme park. My husband wasn’t too keen on visiting Hello Kitty Land, but we compromised and ended up going to Singapore to see a friend. There, I met up with my BFF, Sandy, and her daughter.
Armed with cash (for buying Hello Kitty souvenirs, what else?) and my trusty camera, me and the other “girls” disembarked from our transport and arrived at the Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park complex. We glimpsed one of the best sights I’ve seen all year – the beautiful and amazingly inviting entrance to Hello Kitty Land!
Clutching each other, me and my BFF went mad with excitement. Our kids looked pretty happy too, and the girls dragged us to the stage area where we saw the first Hello Kitty show of the day. The performance appealed to the kids and adult fans alike, and I was quite impressed with the costumes and showmanship.
Next, we took our time and strolled through the entire theme park, which by the way is fully indoors. I do so hope they would build an outdoor addition to Hello Kitty Land. Imagine the many rides I could enjoy there! My prayers were somewhat answered when we stumbled upon the Hello Kitty teacup ride. This charming amusement feature made my day. My daughter and I shared a tiny little teacup (it was a wonder I was able to squeeze into it!) and went around THRICE. Talk about being a die-hard fan!
I was overjoyed to discover studios offering Hello Kitty activities. You’ll find them strewn around the level where you can participate in jewelry making, cookie baking, nail painting and even a place where you’ll be made up like Hello Kitty! We were especially enamored with the Hello Kitty cookie studio where a staff handed out butter cookies shaped like Hello Kitty so that we may decorate it with chocolate sauce and strawberry syrup. Oh, what joy!
One of our final stops was at the Hello Kitty House. This life-sized structure housed everything and anything Hello Kitty! I was ready to swoon as I looked at the beautifully whimsical furniture, cutleries and even kitchen appliances. Sigh, if only I lived here!
We ended our visit at the Red Bow Café, but not before splashing our money and credit cards on souvenirs fond at the Sanrio Shop. This was the one time I didn’t mind splurging so much, and my daughter made sure she took advantage of that.
All in all, we had a wonderful time at Hello Kitty Land. My BFF went back to Singapore while my daughter and I stayed a little longer in Johor to await my husband’s arrival. Judging from the numerous bags we carted home, I could tell he was glad to be back sooner; otherwise I would’ve spent all our money on Hello Kitty products, hehe.
