Tour to Legoland Malaysia

If you are planning a family get-away in Johor, a tour to Legoland Malaysia Resort should be on top of your list!

What You Shouldn’t Miss inLegoland

The popularity of LEGO transcends generations. While LEGO’s main targets for its toys are children aged five to twelve, both kids and kids at heart have fond memories of building using blocks.

Tour to Legoland Malaysia

A Complete LEGO Experience

Tour to Legoland Malaysia brings a complete, interactive experience that has always been LEGO’s signature. The 5,500,000 sq ft. resort features over 70 hands-on rides, shows, slides and attractions where you can program, push, pedal and of course, build to your heart’s content.

Below are some of the things that you can do to make your LEGO experience complete.

To Explore

legoland singapore ticket

At the heart of Legoland Malaysia lies MINILAND where you can find famous landmarks carefully built with more than 30 million LEGO bricks. With a scale of 1:20, popular buildings such as Angkor Wat, TajMahal, KL Petronas Tower and Singapore’s own downtown Merlion Park are carefully replicated. There is also a miniature Singapore scene that features the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay skyline. Get your cameras ready: you should also watch out for motorized LEGO cars, ships, trains and airplanes that come to life with a push of a button. Make sure that you zoom your cameras to capture the scene as they happen!

To Conquer

how to go legoland from singapore

Feel the rush of adrenaline as you ride The Dragon which is one of the famous roller coasters in the nearby area. Rated by most to bring 5 out of 10 screams, this ride will take you deep inside a castle on a fire-breathing dragon. The track swerves sharply to the left and to the right at near-vertical angles and with a top speed of 60km/hr, making you feel as if you are being tipped out.

If you feel more daring, ride Project X at your own risk. With its 15 corners and steep switchback track, this ride has more twists and hairpin turns than other rides at the park. Only 4 four people are allowed to ride in a car which will take you 18 meters above the ground. At the start of the ride, your cart will fly down the slope which is guaranteed to produce screams from the riders. Most give this ride 7 out of 10 screams.

Parents and children who are looking for a milder yet challenging ride may take on Merlin’s Challenge, a high-speed carousel that puts 48 visitors at a time for a spin. This charming ride offers ample shelter from the sun with its small and colorful cars or carriages that go round a circle and up and down in a wave-like motion. Challenge: Dare yourself to survive past the 15th round.

To Build

Of all the things LEGO is known for, building is on the top of the list. It’s no surprise then that LEGO has specific areas where both young and old can build anything from robots to race cars. For example, Build-A-Raft lets you design, customize and build your own unique LEGO raft and set it afloat around a river. Model builders can also turn their creative designs into reality through the LEGO Academy. Finally, test the durability of your structure in the earthquake table.

To Shop

legoland malaysia promotion

Aside from pictures of you and the LEGO version of a colossal stature of Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II and other gigantic structures, you can take home fun and rare memorabilia of a wonderful day by shopping at The Big Shop. Well-suited for its name, The Big Shop is the largest LEGO superstore in Southeast Asia- making it one of your places you must visit in Legoland. The famous store has over 2,000 products from brick sets to souvenirs and guidebooks on building magnanimous and complex structures. Although the prices might make you cringe, the shop has some rare pieces that you can seldom find in other LEGO stores.

To Create Memories

More importantly, just have fun. Legoland is a place of fun, innovation and interaction. Go ahead and dare yourself to try the rides or chill out and watch their spectacular fireworks at night. With lots of activities for the family, Legoland will make your trip worthwhile.

Legoland is located within the Iskandar Malaysia economic region where surrounding retail centers, four-star hotels and apartments thrive. One final tip: To avoid the stress and hassle of commute and traffic, it is recommended that you book a private transport from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia.

Malacca Food Guide – Best Foods and Where to find them

Malacca is abundance with historical heritage, making it to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site and along with these heritages, come recipes that stem from the multicultural inheritance. Here are the top best food to try in Melaka:

1. HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE

No one will pass by Jonker Street without noticing the queue at Kedai Kopi Chung Wah, the place that sells the famed Hainanese chicken rice ball. Business is constantly brisk here, as travelers and locals alike flock to the humble Chinese-style coffee shop to try one of the best chicken rice around.

HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE
The soft and sheeny rice balls are so packed with flavors that they can be easily eaten alone. The flavour is naturally good, given how they cooked the rice in chicken broth before meticulously rolled them into a ball shape. One will easily chow down ten of these without realizing it.
Coupled with the rice ball is the boiled kampung chicken, with fragrant sesame oil. As with all nutritious kampung chicken, the leaner and lesser fat meat has a texture that is tougher to bite.

Kedai Kopi Chung Wah
Address: 18, Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka.
Opening Hours:
Monday -Friday: 8.30am to 3 pm
Saturday, Sunday & Public Holiday: 8.30am to 4 pm

2. CENDOL

CENDOL>
The best dessert time in Melaka is to savor the cold and refreshing cendol. The finely shaved ice, rich with coconut milk and topped with the heritage condiments, Gula Melaka is always a welcoming cure for the year-round warm climate.
The cendols in Melaka are generally good but here are a few notable ones:

Aunty Koh Cendol
Address: No. 5113, Jalan Batang Tiga, Kampung Bukit Rambai,75250 Melaka.
Opening Hours: Saturday & Sunday only: 12pm until 1pm (or sold out)

3. SATAY CELUP

Satay is alike to skewers and ‘celup’ literally translated as ‘dip’. It’s unsurprising as the raw or semi-cooked ingredients were skewered and cooked by immersing them in hot peanut gravy. The gravy is creamy, sweet and aromatic, with a hint of spiciness that will slowly build up.

SATAY CELUP
Served in self-service style, customers will select their favorite skewers, ranging from meat, innards, seafood, vegetables to veritable of fishballs, that were being kept fresh in chilled counters or fridge.
Capitol Satay Celup
Address: 41, Lorong Bukit Cina, Bandar Hilir, 75100 Melaka
Opening hours: 5.30pm – 12.30am, Close on Tuesday
Daily from 4 pm till late night

4. TRADITIONAL NYONYA KUIH

NYONYA KUIH,baba charlie
Nyonya kuih or cake is the specialty of Peranakan, who had improvised the original Malay kuih. The textures are mostly sticky and pleasantly soft to bite, attributed to the use of rice or glutinous rice flour in the recipe. Nyonya kuih is the favorite breakfast and tea time snack for Malaysian and best to chomp down with a perfect cup of Teh Tarik. There’s a variety of Nyonya Kuih but the most notable flavors are the bluish pulut tekan, ondeh-ondeh, kuih lapis, serimuka and ang ku kueh, just to name a few.
Baba Charlie
Address: 72, Jalan Tengkera Pantai 2, 75200 Melaka
Opening hours: 10.30am-3.00pm, Close on Thursday.

5. KLEBANG COCONUT SHAKE

One of the most notable modern recipe created in Melaka is Klebang Coconut Shake. Coconut flesh, vanilla ice-cream and coconut water were blended to produce the creamy smoothie-like drink, the perfect ammo to combat the warm weather.
Klebang coconut shake
At Klebang Coconut Shake, there’s a counter that caters for takeaway which has the longer queue most of the time. It’s recommended to order for ‘drink-in’ where you get to sit comfortably (albeit no air condition) while trying out some of their kuih and snacks. However, their packed nasi lemak and mee siam are not recommended.
Klebang Coconut Shake
Address: Lot 130, Solok Kampung Bahagia, Klebang Besar, 75200 Melaka
Opening hours: 11:00am—6:30pm. Close on Friday

6.NYONYA LAKSA

Nyonya Laksa is another prized recipe of Peranakans descendants, which is a noodle dish immersed in curry gravy. Its flavor can vary from one eatery to another, as the generations modify the recipe over the time. Nonetheless, the signature of Nyonya Laksa is always the spicy punch, infused with multiple aromatic spices.
NYONYA LAKSA
Nancy’s Kitchen
Address: 13-1-2, Jalan KL 3/8, Taman Kota Laksamana, Seksyen 3, 75200 Melaka
Opening hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday: 11am—5pm
Friday & Saturday: 11am — 9pm

7. LOCAL SNACKS AND BISCUITS

The easiest way to buy all the local snacks under one roof, is by visiting San Shu Gong in the busiest stretch of Jonker Street.
As San Shu Gong is selling a wide variety of snacks including some non-native items, it will be good to have a rough idea of what you would like to buy first, or you might end up buying products that you could have cheaply buy at supermarkets.
A few examples of the good snacks are the dodol (a sticky sweet made from coconut and Gula Melaka), Gula Melaka, lime juice, home brand durian jam, beh teh soh and wife cakes (lou poh peng).
San Shu Gong 三叔公

The Ultimate Guide to Johor Bahru Heritage Trial

For any traveller visiting the town of Johor Bahru, JB Heritage Street is a must in your itinerary. If you’re curious about how the old Johor Bahru looked like decades ago, this is one area that should not be missed.
johor-bahru-heritage-trial
By referring to the map, the three recommended streets to focus on would be JalanDhoby, JalanTrus and Jalan Tan Hiok Nee as most of the popular shops are located within these three streets. A tour around this area can be divided into three categories – to see, to eat and take-away for the road.

I) Places To See

1. Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum

johor bahru Chinese Heritage Museum
The Chinese Heritage Museum, also known as Tiong-Hua Museum, showcases valuable artifacts and items contributed by families and associations of the older generation in order to help us understand the Chinese culture better. You will also learn about important names like Tan Hiok Nee, Ngee Heng and Wong Ah Fook and the story behind these prominent figures. For those who wish to understand the background of the different Chinese dialects, this is a good place to start too.
Opening hours : 9am – 5pm daily (Closed on Mondays)
Entrance Fee : RM3 – adults, RM1 – children, students, and senior citizens

2. The Red House

Red House on Jalan Tan Hiok Nee
Originally owned by a wealthy Indian family, the Red House was passed on to several others before its present owner decided to repaint it and use it for cultural events.

The Red House is now being repainted to white. Visitors can still ask to see the interior of the building while works are being done.
Enquiries may be directed to the office of Johor Chinese Heritage Museum at No. 42 Jalan Ibrahim, Contact no : 607 – 2249633, Fax: 607 – 2249635 or email: heritage_museumjb@jb-tionghua.org.my

II) Places To Eat

1. Hua Mui Kopitiam

hua mui kopitiam 华美茶餐室
If you arrive in Johor Bahru early, this may be one of the first stops to sit down and enjoy some local breakfast. This coffee shop serves plenty of local delicacies from morning till tea time. If you’re craving for some traditional butter-kaya toasts and coffee, this is the place you should stop at for a satisfying morning meal.
Operating Hours: 8:00AM – 6:00PM
Location: Diagonally across the street from Roost Café

2. The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen

The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen
For those who prefer something in between breakfast and lunch, The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen offers a range of mouth-watering dishes for brunch. All the items listed on the menu are worth trying. If you’re just hanging out with friends over a cup of coffee and dessert, make sure to try the Salted Egg Churros. It’s bound to leave you a pleasantly unforgettable impression!
From 7pm onwards, The Replacement turns into a whole different theme, “Night at The Replacement” where western dishes and Tapas are served, while relaxing lounge music is played in the background. Travellers who are staying overnight may also wish to check out The Replacement’s AirBnB listing which is located just upstairs. With its central location, all the interesting sights in town are merely a short walk away.

The Ice Cream Project is a quaint little café along JalanDhoby that serves handmade ice-cream. The ice-cream is blended and frozen on the spot by mixing food grade liquid nitrogen (N2) with the ingredients and flavourings after customers place their orders. What makes the ice-cream so delicious is that because it is made on the spot upon customer’s orders, the taste of the ice-cream is at its finest with no icy chunks. Sometimes when ice-cream is kept in the freezer for some time it may turn icy due to the inconsistent temperature. Therefore, by doing this, customers get to fully enjoy the taste and flavour of the ice-cream. For those with a sweet tooth, this may be your favourite hangout spot!

After a long day of sight-seeing and food hunting, it’s time to head back home again, but not without something for the road. Here are a couple of stops to make before you hit the road

1. Hiap Joo Bakery

HiapJoo Bakery
Famous for its banana cakes and coconut buns, there is always a long queue outside the shop and sometimes even up till the streets. HiapJoo Bakery has been in operation since 1919 and even the Royal family of Johor frequent this place. The cakes and bread are deliciously unique because they are baked in the traditional clay-brick oven using wood fire. The banana cakes are soft and moist that you’d find it hard to stop once you start. You will want to bring boxes of their cakes back home for the rest of your family and friends once you’ve tried it.

Kluang- A walk of Nostalgia

If you like taking day trips on weekends or holidays, a trip to Kluang district may be one that you might want to put on your list. Geographically, Kluang is located in the centre of Johor state, surrounded by Mersing, Segamat, BatuPahat, Pontian and Kota Tinggi. Taking a trip to Kluang would feel like you were travelling back in time.
Buildings and architecture of this district are preserved to its best original form. Simply walk around the town and you will see buildings dating back to 70 or 80 years in time. If you enjoy sightseeing while learning more about the history and culture of a place, this is one place to visit.
Kluang requires slightly over an hour’s drive from Johor Bahru via the North-South expressway. Taking the scenic trunk road would require a longer time, but you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way. Any trip to Kluang warrants a stop at the popular breakfast stall – Kluang Rail Coffee. This coffee shop is located at the railway station and is often packed with customers. Average
All kinds of local delicacies are served here and prices are really cheap! A pack of nasilemak or meehoon only costs 90sen. Such prices can never be found in the town of Johor Bahru. Perhaps this is why so many people frequent this place. Apart from that, while enjoying your breakfast and sipping on hot coffee, you also get to watch while people board the trains.

Mural Paintings (JalanDato’ Teoh Siew Khor)

Next, head on down to JalanDato’ Teoh Siew Khor, the street filled with wall murals. There is a parking space next to UOB Bank where you can park your car there with a small fee of RM2. Then walk across the street where you will see the first mural painting that symbolizes the different races and cultures of Malaysia.
Mural Paintings (JalanDato’ Teoh Siew Khor)
All the murals are painted on the back walls of the shops, so you would be walking in the back alley of these shops in order to see these paintings. Don’t worry, the area has been cleaned up well as it is now a tourist attraction spot. Here are some murals which you might see along the walk.
Kluang- A walk of nostalgia
The street stretches all the way till the end where you will see the fire station. There will be a new row of wall murals opened to public soon. So for those who visit Kluang the next, prepare to be mesmerized by two whole rows of artistic creativity!

Church of St Louis (end of Jalan Omar)

As Kluang is filled with historical buildings, I believe that every building tells its very own story of the past. One of it is the St Louis church. The church is located at the end of Jalan Omar, and very close by to the railway station. The main gate is usually open so you can walk in to have a look and take some pictures. The door of the church will be closed unless there is a service going on or about to begin.

St Louis Church is a Roman Catholic church, built in 1964, when missionaries from France arrived in the town of Kluang. The church was named after the brother of its pioneer priest, Louis Duvelle who passed away in that same year. The church has since been renovated and refurbished to what it looks like today.

Old Buildings (JalanLambak)

Old Buildings (JalanLambak)
Along the years, time and modernisation of businesses have evolved the outlook of many buildings. There is one particular street, however, where you can still find buildings that go back to the 1930’s. Take a drive to JalanLambak and you will find a row of shops with the year they were constructed in stated on the top of its building. These buildings also have a unique architecture with lion heads facing different directions. The lion heads are placed facing a certain direction to signify the beliefs of the shop owners.

Gunung Lambak (Jalan Hutan Lipur)

Gunung Lambak (Jalan Hutan Lipur)If you love being close to nature, try taking a mini hike up GunungLambak. GunungLambak is one of the popular hiking spots amongst locals and tourists.
A full hike to the peak is about 1400 metres, but if you just want a leisurely stroll while taking in some fresh air, you can always do a mini hike.
Days of our past years in Kluang district
Half of the route up is paved so it is quite easy to walk up. Certain areas can get quite steep as you ascend so be sure that you have proper shoes with good grip.
Recollections of the old days in Kluang
You will also come across a couple of suspension bridges. Don’t be afraid to walk across. They’re quite sturdy except for some bouncing when there are a few people walking in front and at the back of you.
It was a surprise to find dormitories in the middle of the forest. All the dormitories were empty but there were contact
It was a surprise to find dormitories in the middle of the forest. All the dormitories were empty but there were contact numbers placed on boards nearby for those who wish to rent these dorms. It would be an alternative to setting up tents as there is clean water and air conditioning in the dorms.
After a mini hike, we would all be ready to retire back to our beds. Journeys home can get a little boring. Most travellers would opt to use the expressway back to Johor Bahru city because it is the fastest route. However, if you’re in no hurry to get home, why not take the scenic route back? Taking the trunk road will lead you to the discovery of another small town called Renggam.

Renggam – The Forgotten Town

Renggam
A visit to this town takes you back in time to the old days where life moved at a slow pace and everyone was laid-back. The whole town is within walking distance from one end to the other, making every corner easily accessible. In the town area, you will find shops that were constructed in the 1930’s and 1970’s. However, residents say that the town has lost its attraction over the years due to the younger generation leaving for bigger opportunities elsewhere. Only the older generation remain in this town and with time, those who have left also return home less. There are no new developments in this town, hence the lack of job opportunities and attractions. Nonetheless, Renggam is an interesting place to photograph with its historical buildings and culture.
If you’re always curious and inquisitive about history, Kluang is definitely a place to visit. The locals here would be more than happy to share their stories with you. The beauty of this old town never fails to mesmerize its visitors. Make sure you bring your camera or phone along for all the Instagram worthy shots!

There is, however a hidden gem in the state of Johor that many have not thought to venture to. If you seek some sea, sand and sun over the weekend, why not head to these beaches in Johor?
Take the north-south expressway from Johor Bahru City Centre which will lead you to the Senai-Desaru highway. There are signs all the way that will lead you to Desaru. Once you see the signboard below, follow the direction of your desired destination.
Beach trips in Johor
Two areas that are highly recommended are Tanjung Balau and Desaru. Both are situated in the small town of Bandar Penawar.

Tanjung Balau

TanjungBalau
Different people seek different things by visiting the beach. Some seek fun and adventure, while some seek a picturesque view followed by a quiet surrounding to enjoy their favourite book. Tanjung Balau offers the perfect quiet getaway. Not many know of the beach here so it is less crowded. The waters seem clearer than Desaru, but the beach can get very rocky so it may only be suitable for a splash but not for swimming.
Tanjung Balau is a village area where residents mostly live in wooden houses. There are a number of chalets run by the locals there for backpackers who need a place to spend the night. Those chalets are not listed online and can only be booked if you know the owners or happen to come across them while visiting Tanjung Balau. However, do not expect much from these chalets except for the basic amenities like water heater. Some do not even have air-conditioning as most backpackers only require the basic bed and water supply for a night’s stay.

1. Tanjung Balau Beach Resort

Bayu Balau Beach Resort used to be a family-run chalet and it was recently renovated and refurbished into this resort. This resort is more suited for group stays as there aren’t many activities to do within the resort. For larger groups, the resort can arrange for team building games. Barbecue dinners are also available upon request. Alternatively, you may rent a barbecue pit for RM80, to be enjoyed with your friends and family during your stay there.
The swimming pool is large, but slightly crowded as it is open to the public at a fee of RM10. Therefore you will find many teens and families who are just there for a swim on weekends and holidays. Room rates are separated into chalets and dormitories as shown below :
TanjungBalau Beach Resort bookings
If you enjoy quiet sunsets by the beach, with minimal noise, Tanjung Balau Beach Resort is a good place to enjoy some quiet time. Apart from that, the views you can capture with your camera are amazingly beautiful. This could be a good place for some Instagram worthy shots too! If you’re not quite sure about spending the night here, even a day trip would suffice for all the beauty of nature that you will be able to capture with your camera lens.

2. Lotus Desaru Beach Resort

Lotus Desaru Beach Resort
For those who prefer some fun at the beach, Desaru is a more suitable place for some running around and a great swim. It is also more family-friendly as the resort accommodation and facilities are catered for families with children. As you turn into Desaru at the roundabout you will notice a stretch of resorts along your way. Take note that most of the resorts are quite old thus the facilities and cleanliness may not be of 5-star level. One of the more popular resorts is the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort. This resort is by far the most popular because of the many activities available within the resort.
Lotus Desaru Beach Resort (2)
Kids can take a swim at the pool while parents watch from the sides. The pool is very well maintained and strictly for the use of hotel guests only.
beach
The resort also prepares lounge chairs like right at the beach so that guests can lounge around after their swim, or lay down with their favourite book in hand, while enjoying the sounds of waves.
parasailing
If you are a person who loves water sports, try parasailing. If you’re not afraid of heights, parasailing takes you up to an amazing view of the area as you glide across the sky.
retail shop
If you forget any necessities, fret not. There is a convenience store within the resort where you can get almost anything including snacks and instant noodles. There are even souvenirs available for guests who wish to bring home a momento.
swimming needs
This is the shop that caters to all your swimming needs, from floats to water guns, you can find everything you need for some fun at the beach.
fun fair
If the children start to get bored of the water, there is also an outdoor arcade within the resort where kids can enjoy rounds of games.
The adults, on the other hand can enjoy some tempting cocktails and beer at the beach bar. The Beach Hut is located right in front of the beach so you can even enjoy a glass of drink while watching the sunset. Such are the pleasures of life!
The resort offers a variety of delicacies at the restaurant. However, when the resort is crowded, waiting for a table can be an issue. If you like trying out new places, why not take a drive to a nearby town instead for some delicious seafood?
beach hut
The beach needs no description nor invitation. Just the beauty and calmness of being close to nature always brings people back. Any stressful day can quickly simmer down as long as you are at the beach. So, if you need a breather, why not go somewhere not so far away but far enough to escape the realities of life for a while?

Seafood Town of Pengerang

Seafood Town of Pengerang.
Super Lobster Restaurant is located in the town of Pengerang, about 25 minutes’ drive from the resort. The road may be windy but the drive is worth it. There are a few restaurants serving seafood within the vicinity of Pengerang, but Super Lobster Restaurant offers the freshest seafood at reasonable prices. Be sure to try out their salted egg crab!

If you are travelling in big groups, it is best to call for a reservation as the restaurant is usually packed during holidays.

3. Desaru Public Beach

public desaru beach
Along the stretch of resorts at Desaru, you will also find a path leading to the Desaru public beach. Most people fear the sound of public beaches because almost always, cleanliness is an issue. However the public beach at Desaru has proven otherwise! Over the years there have been campaigns organized to clean up the beaches along Desaru and these campaigns have yielded pretty amazing results. The public beach is perfect for picnics and kite flying.
You will need to pay a small fee of RM2 to park in the designated carpark. Make sure to arrive early as the beach can get crowded during weekends and public holidays. The best spots are always under a shady tree so you can come back to rest on the shores without getting over-baked by the sun.
Desaru Public Beach kite flying
There are many vendors selling kites along the beach. Why not try to fly one if the wind is strong enough on a particular day? The satisfaction you get seeing your kite rise high above is priceless.beach beuty

One growing trend in Johor Bahru is the supper trend. It isn’t exactly the healthiest trend but once in awhile, a late night out with good company and great food can bring lots of fun and laughter. Johor Bahru is famous for its many food stalls that stay open past midnight. If you happen to be across the border, or planning to head to Johor Bahru, here are some recommendations you can try when you get hungry in the late hours.

1) KedaiMakanan Sin Kimdo

KedaiMakanan Sin Kimdo

Located just opposite Plaza Sentosa, Kimdo serves an array of seafood as well as BBQ skewers. Customers can choose to order a variety of dishes from their menu or savour light snacks on BBQ skewers. The salted egg crab is one of the restaurant’s signature dishes because of its thick and creamy gravy. Remember to order some buns to go with the salted egg gravy! Other highly recommended dishes include the signature silver noodles (“laoshu fen”), and a wide selection of barbecued snacks.

They also have side dishes like prawn dumplings and fried wantons available. However, much patience is required when dining here as the service can be slightly slow as they are sometimes short staffed. The restaurant also has its signature snacks, like duck tongue, liver and wings marinated in Wuhan style with a mixture of Chinese herbs. However, the level of spiciness is only for those who love their food extra spicy.

4) KueyTeowKia

KueyTeowKia

People remember Johor Bahru for its delicious “kueyteowkia” because this dish is not easily available elsewhere. “Kuehteowkia” is actually a portion of kueyteow in herbal soup served with various dishes like pork intestines, braised eggs and duck meat cooked in herbal soup. The preparation of this dish takes a long time as sellers need to ensure that the pork intestines are thoroughly cleaned and cooked without any smell. There are a few places in Johor Bahru that serve some pretty decent “kuehteowkia” but the two restaurants that we liked best are Woon Kiang and Hi Wan. Both places have very contrasting cooking styles. Woon Kiang uses more herbs and therefor the colour of the soup is slightly darker. Hi Wan prepares their soup with more pepper, hence the slight spiciness in their soup. Prices at these two places are also very reasonable. A simple meal for two would cost about RM20-RM25.

Price range : $-$$
Address : Woon Kiang – JalanPandan 1, Taman Stulang, 80300 Johor Bahru
Restoran Hi Wan –210 Jalan Sri Pelangi, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru

LC Catering (AyamPenyet)

Ayampenyet originates from Indonesia and carries the meaning of smashed chicken. The chicken is fried to perfection and then hit hard so that it becomes flat and easy to be eaten. The chicken is served with side dishes like sambal belacan, raw beans and cabbage, fried tofu, and eaten with steamed rice. If you enjoy Indonesian delicacies like this, LC Catering offers not only AyamPenyet but a variety of other Malay dishes like satay and meegoreng. If you’re lucky, they may offer you the special coconut jelly. This refreshing dessert is rarely available and always sold out. So be sure to try one if you get the chance to.

Price range : $-$$
Address : 338, JalanBalau 1, Taman Melodies
Phone : +60 7-335 7355

6) Banafe Village (Shisha and live music)

Banafe Village

For those who enjoy some live music while smoking shisha, Banafe Village offers a wide range of shisha flavours to enjoy. Customers can also enjoy some local favourites while they chill at Banafe. Try the AyamPenyet because some prefer this more than the one at LC Catering! There is also a car wash located in the car park area of Banafe, so while you enjoy that sweet shisha, why not get your wheels shined too?

Expedia claims this to be one of the most frightening locations in Malaysia. As a tourist, you may wonder why is that? Well, it has all the makings of a horror flick. Let’s see, a haunted house on a hill, a 40 year old history, many versions to a killing occurring to a Caucasian family and superstitious practices among local visitors.

What more can you ask for? An attractive package for the horror genre, it’s no wonder many directors sought this villa for a feature horror film. If you’re a fan of mysteries and the supernatural, this may provide an interesting encounter for the average enthusiast. Just remember to go with someone or the local guard if any to ensure you’re safe.

Of course, no horror pieces go without the iconic prisons and their bloody history of the past. This one used to and still does perform punishments and sentences to many rogued out prisoners that includes sufferings and various torture methods to discipline them. From the outside, it may seem like a decent structure.

But when you seek what’s on the inside, prepare to be thick skin for those jailed may not be as friendly as you think. A tough place to survive especially with bad memories and poisonous characters staying in house that breathes an eerie feeling.

Address: Jalan Ayer Molek, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

#3 Bigfoot In The Forest

A mystery is afoot: The hundreds of strange, large footprints all over a tarred road near the Endau Rompin forest reserve in Johor Baru.

Credit: https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2014/05/17/a-big-deal-about-footprints-kilometrelong-tracks-near-forest-reserve-leave-retirees-puzzled/

Any bigfoot or planet of the apes fans out there? We got some news for you. Yes, there are bizarre footprints larger than the average human footprints right nearby the Endau Rompin National Park. Creatures do exist apparently in Johor. A menacing sight if stared upon by anyone especially among campers or jungle trekkers looking to make their mark here. Well, it’s nothing like making new friends, right?

The creepy part involves having these footprints accompanied by footprints of other animals such as elephants and tigers. And now, we’re as curious as you folks. How did that came to be? Any thoughts? Or you prefer calling the Men in Black for this? They’re pretty good investigators. One amusing animal kingdom for all of us to discover and feel. We might as well bring some food supplies or water in case they’re thirsty.

Make no mistake that the wildlife here in Johor is filled with animals of over 100 species.  So, whose in for a share of the jungle exploit?

Have you heard of Merdeka Gardens / Taman Merdeka? If not, then you’re in for a treat. It’s actually a park where many people frequent for their morning and evening exercises. The area is huge so it is also a great place for evening walks with your loved ones.

If the weather isn’t too sunny, take a stroll in Merdeka Gardens whilst enjoying the company of your companion, and should you need a place to take a break, look for a quaint little café called Little Earthku Tearoom. This garden café is the best way to be close to nature while having your afternoon tea. All cakes and pastries are homemade and the menu varies on different days. We’ve heard that the quiche is quite a popular item amongst the regulars there! Not only that, the coffee and tea on their menu are also imported so there is indeed no place more unique to enjoy a warm cup of tea on this trip.

Lunch at Vietnamese café – Chimmy Chummy

Before you head home, it’s time again to fill your tummy at the last stop. Chimmy Chummy is a family-run, quaint little café located at Taman Pelangi. Almost all the items on their menu are amazingly good and authentic. We’d recommend the Pho, Banh Mi as well as the Vietnamese Spring Roll, but you can try out other dishes as well and let us know which ones you like best! Remember to try the Vietnamese coffee too. It’s almost as good as what we’ve had in Vietnam.
